WHAT’S NEW

It seems the Village Gate, a favorite stop for many in Rochester who love to experience the artistry, unique space and shops, and various delicious food choices, is undergoing a renaissance.  With new buildings going up, changes and moves in restaurants and other exciting new projects in the area, The Neighborhood of the Arts has become an anchor for fun times in Rochester.  Here’s what’s new in Village Gate.

The Gate House Restaurant in the Village Gate, is moving into the space that was occupied by the recently closed Espada Brazilian Steak.  Due to the Gate House’s popularity, the move to a larger space is good news for customers.  Good news for Gate House fans, the move will address any long wait times and lines you might have experienced on your way to enjoying this popular spot.  Another popular Village Gate business, The Rochester Brainery is also planning a move into a larger space at 176 Anderson Avenue.  Still part of the overall Village Gate complex, the move will allow them to continue to offer the diverse and exciting classes on the arts and more.  The Plum House Cafe is scheduled to open in mid-May in the Village Gate in the former site of Dark Horse Coffee.  This new restaurant from the same owner of the Plum House on Monroe Ave will offer bubble tea, ramen noodles and other Asian dishes, but not sushi so it won’t compete with California Rollin’.

The Brown Hound Downtown’s full service restaurant is now open at the MAG.  It joins the Brown Hound Bakery that opened several months earlier.   If you’ve ever been to the Brown Hound Bistro in Naples, you know what a popular restaurant it was due to the consistent delicious food, casual friendly atmosphere, and professional service. The Naples location is currently closed but we were told will re-open in the future.  The menu at the Brown Hound Downtown is constantly evolving and changing.  Weekly menus include locally sourced ingredients for the week.  A nice touch.  And Brown Hound is currently putting in a new bar to be stocked with locally distilled spirits.  The hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Wednesday through Friday; and for brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. The bakery is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
